  • Q: What is the socket type in Kyrgyzstan?
  • A: The system provides supply at 220 volts/50Hz – but the supply can be unreliable. Fluctuations of voltage are common and you should a power surge protection device for computers or other sensitive equipment.

Also, there are often interruptions to power supply – especially in the rural areas and even some of the larger towns. There may be frequent power cuts lasting for several hours – especially in the early hours of the morning.

We have installed generators in our hotels to ensure electricity supply whenever it is needed – but sometimes there are problems with the generator as well.

Plugs are two, round-pin European style. If you have British three, rectangular-pin plugs then you will need an adapter. It may be possible to find one in Bishkek – but almost certainly not anywhere else in the country – Best to bring your own!

To make matters worse, there are two types of sockets in use. The older style uses thinner pins whereas the newer style uses thicker ones. So it might be wise if you had a universal adapter.
