- Q: What is the most accepted method of payment in Kyrgyzstan?
- A: The Kyrgyz economy is basically cash based. As a result, you need to give plenty of thought to the questions of:
- how much you will need – Try not to carry more than you need for your immediate needs – but make sure you have enough in one form or another
- how to keep it secure - Try not to carry all your money in one form – use cash, travelers cheques, and credit cards – but remember that Credit cards are not widely accepted in Kyrgyzstan.
- if you need to get extra, can you? – Think about how you might arrange a money transfer (e.g. by Western Union – they may need passwords).

- Also,if you have a Kyrgish or Russian colleague, get them to exchange your currency. I asked for the daily rate and then got my friend to do the same. It was apparent that the money changers will try and rip foreign tourists off
