Naryn — a long, thin town straddling the fast flowing Naryn river (the Syr-Darya of ancient times) between the steep hill-sides of the narrow river valley. Situated in the centre of Kyrgyzstan, on the Silk Road route to China across the Torugart Pass. An ideal location for exploring the delights of the Central Tian Shan:

• the beautiful, charming, isolated, Lake Son-Kul;
• the historic Tash Rabat caravanserai;
• Ece-Naryn and the rugged, scenic Naryn and Little Naryn Rivers;
• the ruins of Koshoy Korgon;
• an easy trek in the Salkyntor canyon past the «Pioneer» youth camp
• the rugged terrain of the road to Jalal-Abad and Osh in the Ferhana valley via Kazarman
• a centre for local crafts such as the production of kalpaks and shyrdaks — by traditional methods

Thank you for the nice place — friendly, warm and great food A real refuge — clean and comfortable, obliging staf, freindly, flexible efficiency. In western terms, possibly a «basic service» but not for Kyrgyzstan. The only place where I have really felt that I got what I paid for. The start I hope of something bigger.
